W.B.A.C. Grand Prix representative – Nurlan Abougaliev.
Nurlan Abougaliev received his academic and ballet training at the Alma-Ata Ballet Academy, Kazakhstan. He has danced professionally with Russian National Ballet in Moscow, Moscow City Ballet and Ballet Internationale prior to joining Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre as a soloist in 2006. Later Nurlan was promoted to the principal position. He has toured extensively in England, China, Japan, South Africa, South Korea, and the United States.
Mr. Abougaliev worked with such prominent teachers and artists as Irina Kolpakova, Vladilen Semenov, Ludmila Semenyaka. Nurlan was performing with the Bolshoi Ballet’s stars Nadezhda Pavlova and Maria Bylova.
Nurlan’s repertoire includes principal roles in a variety of classical and contemporary works: Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Cinderella, Carmen, Balanchine's Theme and Variations, Prodigal Son, Who Cares, Agon and Serenade.
Jiri Kylian's Petite Mort, Paul Taylor’s Company B, Ben Stevenson’s Dracula, Twyla Tharp’s In the Upper Room, Nine Sinatra Songs and Octet, Mark Morris Maelstrom and Sandpaper and Dwight Rhoden’s Ave Maria.
Nurlan’s teaching experience includes Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School, Pittsburgh Youth Ballet, Ohio Ballet Conservatory, Tennessee Allegro Ballet Academy, Champaign Urbana Ballet, Russian Ballet Academy of Maryland, Ballet East.
